Full Description
Information from a school project written by son of the owner of Toad Hall in 1986, entitled The Dark Valley; an investigation of the history of one of the richest archaeological sites in Britain' suggests the presence of a deserted village. The report states that by Medieval times an earlier farm on the hill had grown into a large hamlet with a central hall on top of the hill, with 8 house platforms on the hillside on the south west of the hall. The author suggests this represents a deserted medieval village, possibly Chapmonswiche mentioned in Domesday (1).
