Summary

A bronze diploma or discharge certificate of an auxiliary soldier, found during house building in 1939 but not reported until 1959. Only the second leaf of the diploma remains, and shows that it was issued in AD 105 to a trooper of the cavalry regiment known as 'ala classiana civium Romanorum'. The name of the soldier is unknown, but his father's name was Rammus and his wife was called Amabilis. Fragments of Samian and Roman coarse pottery found alongside.

Full Description

A bronze diploma or discharge certificate of an auxiliary soldier, found during house building in 1939 but not reported until 1959. Only the second leaf of the diploma remains, and shows that it was issued in AD 105 to a trooper of the cavalry regiment known as 'ala classiana civium Romanorum'. The name of the soldier is unknown, but his father's name was Rammus and his wife's Amabilis (1). Diploma found together with fragments of samian and Romen coarse pottery. (2).
Only part of a second tablet survives. 9.6cm high x 13.1 cm wide (3).
