Rode Hall of Church Lane, Scholar Green. In 1699 Roger Wilbraham of Townsend House, Nantwich (RN:179/7) purchased the manor from Randle Rode. There was already a house there-a timber framed structure-but the Wilbrahams probably did not move to Rode until Roger's son Randle built a new hall. This was a house of 7 bays with stable blocks built c1700 & complete by 1708. This now forms the service wing. In 1752 a large addition was added for Randle Wilbraham II, attributed to the Hiorne brothers. In 1799 Randle Wilbraham II employed John Hope to add the bow windows on the W & E sides, lower the windows, render the house, and re-oriente the entrance to the west front. In 1808 he employed Lewis Wyatt to design the dining room. In 1926 the render was removed, portico and balconies added. Presently red flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and slate roof. 2 & 3 storeys (1 & 2).
