Full Description

In August 1838, a number of hand-made bricks were found at Tetton Hall Farm, Tetton, on the line of the Roman road south from Middlewich. They formed a structure covering a horizontal hole 8ft long & 'high enough for a person to creep up'. The bricks were made of clay, mixed with straw & were oddly shaped. One brick is 13.5ins long x 3.5ins wide. (1).

The shape of the "bricks" as drawn in Thompson Watkin, suggests these were briquetage. They are described as being similar to those found at Kinderton. The description in (1) Also states that at the base of the hole a "a fine powder, like snuff, about six inches wide " was found. The structure is recorded as being entirely destroyed.(1)

This record was initially recorded as a brickworks but the description of the site and appearance of these bricks suggests this was a salt working site. (4)
