Full Description

Moat at Goostrey. A mansion house must have existed at an early period in Goostrey, which probably occupied the site of the present chapel yard, (SJ77937002) which exhibits vestiges of a fortified parallelogram. The E & N sides slope almost precipitously to a deep dingle below & the other sides appear to have been strengthened by a deep fosse, which is now almost filled up on the S, but may be traced along a deeply sunken highway on the W (1).
