Summary

Medieval moat enclosing a platform c.40m square, probably the original site of Crossley Hall. The ditch survives to a depth of 1.4m and is not water filled. The southern arm of the moat has been mutilated.

Moat illustrated on OS 6inch map of 1954. Field surveyor comment (23/04/1964) - 'A homestead moat whose outer scarp is mutilated'.

Crossley Farm, Buglawton. Single moat, with a platform circa 40m square. No buildings or entrance or other associated features such as channels or fishponds. Condition - damp and in pasture. Probably the site of the original Crossley Hall, early seventeenth century.
