Summary

Grade II listed folly castle built in 1754 by Randle Wilbraham, created to be viewed and visited from Rode Hall. It is made of coursed sandstone rubble and bult as ruins consisting of a battlemented round tower to the north, and a wall pierced by an arch to the south.

Full Description

An early example of a folly castle built in 1754 by Randle Wilbraham, to be viewed and visited from Rode Hall. Made of coursed sandstone rubble and consists of a battlemented round tower to the north, and a wall pierced by an arch to the south. Stands on a hilltop and straddles County boundary. The first meetings of the Primitive Methodists were held below the Castle (1). Occupies the site of an earlier beacon.
Ther is an inscription on the monument commemorating the camp meeting held here on the 31 May 1807 by the originators of the Primitive Methodist Connexion (1).
