Opposite the Boar's Head Inn, a possible timber-lined brine pit, 6. 1m in diameter x 5.18m deep was excavated by machine. It was lined with 15cm diameter vertical posts approx 61cm apart. Behind these, planks had been set horizontally and packed with puddled clay. The lining had been constructed in the 16th and 17th centuries, possibly in a medieval pit. The pit was filled with black silt and contained numerous animal bones, including several horses, and a skull of a young adult male. The pit was filled in during the mid 18th century. Also two possible 12th-14th century timber buildings 3.05m x 4.57m with small porches on the south sides were revealed adjacent to Kinderton Street. The walls consisted of vertical close-set circular section timbers with square horizontal beams both inside and outside forming the foundation.
