Summary
Ditch containing Flavian pottery on the western boundary of the settlement, excavated in 1972. This feature probably represents an early defence and is perhaps indicative of military control or supervision of the production of salt.

Full Description
In March 1972, a ditch 13ft wide & 4ft deep was found on the western boundary of the settlement. The silt contained Flavian pottery. This feature probably represents an early defence and is perhaps indicative of military control or supervision of the production of salt (1).
