Full Description
A Saxon coin hoard of approximately 40 coins, all dating to the early tenth century and not later than 920, was found just west of the Church of St John the Baptist in 1862 (2). 15 of these coins are reported to have been identified and are in private ownership, but the rest were lost since the discovery (1, 2). Among the identified coins were those of Edward the Elder (reportedly depicting a tower), St Peter of York and St Edmund of Edmundsbury (1, 2).
