Summary

Tushingham, first mentioned in Domesday 1086. At that time Tushingham was the property of Robert FitzHugh, Lord of Malpas. The Constantines were probably the mesne lords of Tushingham until the 13th century, about the middle of which, a partition was made of the manor in favour of a younger son, whose descendants acquired the local name. The estate of the Constantines passed to the Balls of Tushingham from whom the Stocktons acquired considerable lands. The principal estate, which may have been manorial, was the property of the Stocktons & was held under the barony of Malpas. Later it passed to the Grosvenor family & in 1636 the manor was sold, together with Chad's chapel (RN:1720/1). Finally the manor passed into the possession of the Vawdreys of Tushingham Hall.
