Summary

Excavations at 28 Frodsham St. (the site of the Lord Raglan Hotel) 'proved rich in material finds', including a bronze ring, a coin and a fair amount of pottery, including a Samian bowl stamped CELS M, and a rim fragment of hammer-head type mortarium. Most of the finds seem to have been retained by the contractor.

Full Description

The site of the Lord Raglan Hotel, 28 Frodsham Street, 'proved rich in material finds', but most of them were retained by the contractor, including a bronze finger-ring, two coins and a fair amount of pottery, including a Samian ware bowl stamped CELS M, and a rim fragment of hammer-head type mortarium (dated to the third or fourth century) (1). The location of the Lord Raglan Hotel was determined from 1:500 first edition map 1875 in CCR.
