Daresbury Laboratory is a Physics research centre established in 1962. The landmark Tower, 245ft (72 metres) tall is a ribbed column with a drum on top and attached service shaft. It was built in 1974-78 for a tandem Van der Graaf particle accelerator. Designed by Laboratory staff it was built by Monk Concrete Structures limited. Tower shut down in 1993, research continues elsewhere on site.
