Monument record 15995 - Ridge and Furrow Earthworks North-east of Crewe Hill House

Earthworks indicative of ridge and furrow are visible on this survey at this location. The ridge and furrow appear to be of multiple types in approximately three blocks with a possible headland located between the eastern and western blocks. The western block is aligned east-west and is approximately 5.5m wide from ridge to ridge. It is apparent on the valley side, but not on the valley floor. It probably dates from the medieval period. The larger area of earthworks on the eastern side of this area is very narrow and regular, reminiscent of nineteenth century steam ploughing. To its south is a smaller area of very regular and broadly spaced ridge and furrow.
