Full Description
<1> Dutton, RJA, 1999, Hidden Highways of Cheshire, p.9 & 12 (Book). SCH9572.
During the dry summer the outline of a building was seen at the centre of this field from the air. A small excavation was carried out and it proved to be a Roman Building. Did this mean that the adjacent river didn’t flood in the Roman period.
<2> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 24/04/2024 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.
There is a cropmark in the larger field to the immediate northwest SJ 4147 5305. It does appear to be a natural depression and work associated to remediate the depression. There is no evidence to support the author's statement. A hypothesis is that this may be a misreferencing/remembering of the excavations being undertaken at Tilston during the 1980s.
