Monument record 719/2/7 - Condate - Roman deposits, St Anne's Bakery (?), south of Chester Road

The principia must have lain underneath and either side of Chester road, with the internal road now directly superceded by modern paving. This means the western gateway lay under the pavement either side of Chester Road. Elements of the probable gateway were found still partly exposed in the cellar of Anne's Bakery on the south side of Chester Road.

A cellar section uncovered in 1983 shows many phases of occupation; this is variously placed in a bicycle shop (No.42 Chester Road) or in Anne's Bakery, both on the southern side of Chester Road opposite the Bowling Green site.

Plan of Bowling Green site also includes an arrow indicating the location of 'section in cellar' which appears to be in one of the properties 39-43 Chester Road.
