Summary

Nineteenth century maps show a large mound in a field north of Ridley Farm. The field is called Windmill field, suggesting that this earthwork was a windmill mound. It was destroyed in the early to mid nineteenth century by sand quarrying.

Full Description

This map depicts a circular hill or mound circa one hundred metres in diameter at its base and circa forty-five metres in diameter at the top. The latter is depicted as being covered with trees. The plot containing this feature is called Wind Mill Field.

Approximately half the mound or hill has been removed by an adjacent sand pit.
