Full Description
<1> Oxford Archaeology North, 2022, Chester Northgate Redevelopment: Phase 1 Post-Excavation Assessment Report, R4690 (Client Report). SCH9431.
A group of cut features (pits, postholes, gullies/ditches) were recorded during the excavation of groundworks (the lower foundation pile mat within the former bus exchange) undertaken in 2020-1 as part of the Northgate redevelopment scheme. The features comprised three pits (506, 529, 559), three postholes (531, 533, 535), and two intercutting gullies or shallow ditches (530, cutting 542). Although they could not be closely dated they are thought to be medieval/post medieval in date.
