Full Description
<1> Oxford Archaeology North, 2022, Chester Northgate Redevelopment: Phase 1 Post-Excavation Assessment Report, R4690 (Client Report). SCH9431.
Four pits (features 10018; 10022; 10024; 10026) of medieval date were recorded during the excavation of a gas-diversion trench along Hunter Street in 2020-1 as part of the Northgate redevelopment scheme. The precise character and size of the pits remain unknown as all extended beyond the limits of the trench. Feature 10018 was, however, substantial, being 2.92m long and at least 0.8m deep, whilst 10024 was over 1.22m in length, the other two features being rather smaller.
