Monument record 8403/2/2 - Roman walled compound at Princess Street phase 5 (insula 21), further evidence

An east/west wall (feature 742) was recorded in 2020-1 during groundworks undertaken during the Northgate redevelopment. It was observed in a service trench on the south side of Princess Street which traversed the southern part of the 'walled compound' (see CHER 8403/2) in Insula XXI and potentially represents an internal partition in the east range of buildings surrounding the central courtyard.

Another fragment of walling recorded some 20m to the north in 2016 (see CHER 8403/2/1) may also represent an internal partition in the east range of the courtyard building complex.
