Further evidence of the centurion's house (CHER 8177; OAN building 802) at the west end of barrack block 4 (CHER 8163) in Insula XXII was recorded in 2020-1 during groundworks undertaken during the Northgate redevelopment on the south side of Hunter Street. A north/south wall (634) was observed in one of the pile caps (B7) which corresponds with the predicted position of a partition wall in the north range of the centurion’s quarters; it is thought to date to the later phase (third century) of the building. A turned bone gaming counter (OR 1803), stained black or superficially burnt, was recovered from the wall (634).
