Further evidence for one of the barrack blocks (Block 4, see CHER 8163) in Insula XXII was recorded in 2020-1 during groundworks undertaken during the Northgate redevelopment on the south side of Hunter Street. A small fragment of a north/south-aligned stone wall (657) was recorded between piles 123 and 124; it appears to have a concordance with the estimated line of the west wall of the contubernia block in the second century AD structure, rather than with the predicted wall lines of the later phases of the building.
