Summary

A tree nursery and forest workers house built in the mid nineteenth century. The original house was demolished at the start of the twentieth century, when it was replaced by Kingswood Cottage (CHER 6697). The nursery operated until 2019.

The map which accompanies this paper depicts a rectangular enclosure at the approximate location of Kingswood Cottage. It is labelled Woodmans Lodge.

1873-1874: Castlehill Cottage comprises a series of buildings with small enclosed fields. 1898: Castlehill Cottage has expanded its enclosure (labelled nursery) and a new larger building erected to the south-east of the existing buildings. This building becomes Kingswood Cottage (see CHER 6697). 1910: The new building is labelled Castlehill Cottage on this map.

This map depicts five square and rectangular enclosures with a long building located between two enclosures on the south-western side. Labelled Castlehill Cottage.

This map depicts the same buildings and enclosures depicted on the 1873-1874 map. A further large sub-triangular enclosure has been added to the south-east, labelled Nursery. A new building has been constructed to the south-east of Castlehill Cottage.
