Monument record 15793 - Ridge and Furrow North of Dairy Farm

Please read our .

Summary

Two areas containing earthworks created by agricultural activity. The area includes parallel linear earthworks, in the form of distinct ridges and troughs known as ridge and furrow. Ridge and furrow earthworks form as a result of medieval and post medieval cultivation practices. These particular earthworks probably date from the medieval period. A few marl pits also survive in this area, some as earthworks, within a small area of woodland.

Two areas of curving ridge and furrow are clearly visible either side of a shallow stream valley. The northern ridge and furrow are circa six metres wide from ridge to ridge, the southern broader at circa eleven metres wide. The earthworks are clearly preserved within a small area of woodland here, which coincides with a few marl pits. Probably medieval.
