Summary

The possible earthwork remains of a bedwork water meadow dating from the seventeenth or eighteenth century. It comprises a complex of parallel banks and troughs aligned either side of a straight bank.

Full Description

A complex of parallel banks and troughs circa twelve metres wide from ridge crest to ridge crest, aligned either side of a straight bank circa seven metres wide and two hundred and fifty metres long. The pattern is more irregular at its south-eastern end and the eastern set of banks and troughs is bounded by a bank.

The earthworks appear, at least in part, predate the field boundaries depicted on this map.

The earthworks appear, at least in part, predate the plot boundaries depicted on this map.

Possibly medieval broad ridge and furrow. However, it is also possible that this the surviving part of a bedwork water meadow dating from the seventeenth or eighteenth century. Notable that the earthworks respect and reflect the island like landform on the Gowy flood plain that Holme Farm occupies and which it takes its name from.
