The structural remains of a building (Building 1) of nineteenth century date were recorded during an archaeological evaluation in 2020-1 at the junction of Wheelock Street and Darlington Street. Building 1 was located in the north-west corner of Trench 1a and measured 10m by 7m in plan. The cellar area was subdivided into five rooms: Room 1 which measured 5m x 2m in plan, and an adjoining Room 2 to the east, which measured 5m x 3m. Room 3 comprised a corridor of 6m by 7m to the east of Rooms 1 and 2. Another two rooms were partially exposed in the western part of the building measuring 4m x 2m (Room 4) and 3m x 1m (Room 5). The adjoined Rooms 2 to 5 were found during the watching brief for the new foundation and were located north-west of Trench 1a. The original building probably would have been two storey terrace houses with shops on the ground floor and lodgings above; it was demolished in the early 21st century.
