Full Description
<1> Cheshire Archaeology Planning Advisory Service, 2010, Site visit/watching brief observation form, ECH7139 (Unpublished Report). SCH5277.
A short section of sandstone wall visible in the side of an excavated service trench (probable watermain). Two to three course of a mortar bonded sandstone wall were visible at a depth of approximately one metre. One masonry fragment had been disturbed from the wall, it was notably deeper than wide, and the exterior face was slightly convex, but whether this was by design or due to weathering was not ascertained. The wall was aligned approximately north-east to south-west. Possibly a continuation of the wall, postulated to be the precinct wall to the Dominican Friary (CHER 10317) observed to the north-east at the junction between Black Friars and Nicholas Street (see CHER 10631/1).
