Full Description

Various medieval / post medieval hollow ways are visible as earthworks centred at SJ 9583 7543 on vertical aerial photography and lidar imagery. The majority of the trackways remain extant, though some appear to have been levelled by the latest 2011 aerial photography (see 5).
The northernmost trackway runs on a roughly north-east to south-west orientation for approximately 370 metres. It branches into two hollow ways around 90 metres from its north-eastern terminus and is cut in places by small extractive pits. Field boundary banks line one or both sides of the track in places. Further hollow ways to the south of this trackway traverse the south-facing slopes on a variety of alignments, in places cutting through ridge and furrow ploughing (UID1599163 (CHER 15727) (see 3-5).

A medieval / post medieval field boundary is visible as an extant earthwork bank centred at SJ 9582 7535 on lidar imagery and the latest 2011 aerial photography. The south-westernmost 25 metres of the boundary continues but is only visible as a cropmark (see 4-5).

Site 45: Identified from aerial photographs (see 7), a possible field boundary running north-west/south-east, with an additional section curving to the south-east formed by what appears to be a ditch. The mapping appeared to show this feature as being within the central part of the field, there was no visible remains of the feature at ground level, although the weather was not favourable during the walkover. A field boundary ditch is present around the current field wall circuit.
Site 76: The site was identified during a walkover survey and may be a component of Site 45. This was a long linear field ditch located along the current north-western and south-western field boundaries. The ditch was approximately 2m wide and about 1m deep. The ditch was grassed over and it was unclear whether it functioned. The ditch was worn away at the entrance points to the field. It did not appear to coincide with Site 45.
