Monument record 15653 - Site of a Watermill in Aldford

Burdett 1777 shows a probable watermill on Aldford Brook but it relates to Lea Hall Manor.

Bryants map of 1831 confirms a ( a difficult to discern) watermill close to Aldford Bridge on Aldford Brook. Not mentioned by Bott or elsewhere it is an overlooked missed mill.

Dodgson EPNS VI pp 78-79 records Lea Farm and Mill and Windmill Field but no mention of a second watermill

No OS map evidence of a mill by the bridge. The 1839 tithe shows a cluster of buildigs with access to Aldford Brook. No relevant field name.

The earliest date for Lea Mill is 1620. Perhaps, the lack of field name, its prime location, no documentary evidence or physical trace, may suggest Aldford was possibly earlier and then superseded by the windmill.
