Summary

Field names suggest that a watermill with a wharf located nearby may have been located here on the River Dane. It is possible that this was the ‘molendinum de Leyes’ (Leyes Mill) mentioned in documentary sources dating from the thirteenth century.

Full Description

Possible site of a watermill and wharf on the River Dane indicated by field names. The Tithe award for Cotton township records several plots at this location incorporating references to a mill. These include Banks where the mill stood, Mill Meadow with bank, and Mill Field and the wharf. Adjacent in Cranage Township is Mill Meadow.
