Summary

An area of wetland surmounted by a wood established in the nineteenth century. The peat deposits have the potential to contain palaeo-environmental information about the post glacial climate and environment.

Separate to the much larger wetland, Whitley Reed, located to the north-west. Possibly also known as Gale Moss, as preserved in the nearby farm name. Up to 1 metre of peat survives here.

This map depicts a T shaped area labelled as Park Moss Gorse. The top bar of the T corresponds to the current extent of the moss/woodland.

The area of Park Moss is depicted on this map as a number of individual plots whose names include moss or Park Moss. Their use is varied and include heath, woodland, pasture, meadow and oats. Many of the plots are owned by the trustees of Peover School.
