The earliest documentary reference to the farmstead dates from 1831 (see 2).

This map depicts and names the farmstead.

This map depicts two buildings at this location, with two smaller buildings nearby. The plot is described as Throstle Nest House, buildings, yard and garden.

This map depicts the house with a square building to the immediate north. A number of addition structures adjoin this building on its northern side. Beyond is a well. Gardens lie to the south of the house. Labelled Throstlesnest Farm.

This map depicts the house with a rectangular building to the north. This building broadly corresponds to the group of buildings depicted on the 1883 map (see 4). Labelled Throstlenest Farm.

Two new farm buildings have been built to the east of the original farm building.

Throstle: a songbird of the thrush family, typically a blackbird or song thrush. However, throstle-nest is an old term describing part of a deer's antler.
