Monument record 15497 - Rostherne Mere Field System

A semi regular pattern of linear earthworks visible on LIDAR survey data. The earthworks are predominantly located on a natural slope adjacent to the western side of Rostherne Mere. The earthworks comprise a smaller number of longer negative linear earthworks orientated along the slope, with more frequent shorter negative earthworks running down the slope.

Some of the earthworks correspond to field boundaries depicted on this map.

In some instances, earthworks associated with field boundaries depicted on the 1848 tithe map, appear to truncate other field boundary earthworks. It is probable that these later field boundaries relate to remodelling of the field system.
