Full Description

Formerly inn, now public house: mid eighteenth century with mid nineteenth century alterations. Chipped and rendered red brick. Welsh slate roof, hipped at one end. Two brick chimneys. Developed from single-pile to L-shaped plan. Three-storey, nearly symmetrical three-bay front. Plastered plinth, plain pilaster and sill bands at first floor. Ground storey has a three-light wooden casement with glazing bars, and a larger window with simple wooden architraves. Central plain doorcase with six-panelled door (two glazed). Above are flush twelve and six-pane sashes with heavy glazing bars in simple architraves. Interior: has inglenook fireplace in lounge bar, and exposed ceiling beams. Staircase from first to second floor has column newels and balusters, the landing has a crisscross balustrade (see Hamilton House (q.v.) opposite). Some nineteenth century four and six-panelled pine doors.
