Toft Moss was investigated by the North West Wetlands project, an archaeological and paleoecological study of the varied wetlands of Cheshire, undertaken between 1993-95. The site, a rectangular mire, lies circa 2km south of Knutsford between Ullardhall Farm and Toft Hall. The surviving fragment of mire is poorly preserved with just 1.5m of amorphous peat deposit overlying boulder clay. The degraded nature of the mire indicates it has long been drained.

Two samples were examined for pollen spectra from 1.15m and 1.30m depth. The pollen recorded was mainly from pine and hazel suggesting a Flandrian I date. Charcoal was abundant. However, overall pollen preservation was poor and the site is considered to have little palaeoecological potential.
