As early as about 1190, Walton Superior appears to have given name to a family, no doubt holding the mesne manor or a considerable part of the township. The hall is a handsome structure of Elizabethan architecture, in brick, with stone facings upon the angles and gables; it is surrounded by a park of considerable extent.

A group of buildings are depicted on this map with the possible hall to the immediate west. The plot is described as "House called Walton Hall, outbuildings, garden, fold and outlet".

This map depicts a roughly T-shaped building. To the immediate east are three further buildings around a possible yard area. A rectangular building is located on the northern side of the yard. On the southern side is a square building, with an L-shaped building to the immediate east. Labelled Walton Old Hall.

<4> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ6085, 1898 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.

The hall and the two farm buildings on the southern side of the yard have been demolished. A new L-shaped farm building encloses three sides of the yard along with the existing building on the northern side. A new house, also called Walton Old Hall lies to the east of the yard.
