The manor of Kenyon was originally part of the manor of Lowton. Towards the end of the reign of Henry III [1216-1220], William de Lawton granted the ‘whole vill of Kenyon’ to his son Jordan for the rent of one penny and a pair of white gloves. The manor remained within the family until 1358 when it passed via marriage to Richard, son of Thurstan de Holland of Denton. Subsequently it descended like Denton, Heaton, and the other estates of the family, to the Earl of Wilton. Lord Grey de Wilton still held the manor in 1787.
