<1> L-P Archaeology, 2021, Archaeological Evaluation and Mitigation Report for Land at Bowe's Gate Road, Bunbury, R4534 (Client Report). SCH9084.
Two sections of north-south ditch were recorded in two separate trenches (trenches 2 and 3) during an archaeological evaluation in 2021 on land at Bowe's Gate Road, Bunbury. Both sections of ditch are U-shaped in profile. The date of the features is uncertain.
In Trench 2 the ditch measured 1.35m wide and 0.3m deep. In the upper fill (202) there was a lens of charcoal-rich dark yellow/brown silty sand up to 0.16m thick. Beneath this was the primary fill of light yellow/brown silty sand.
In Trench 3 the ditch measured at least 4.56m long, 1m wide and up to 0.45m deep. The fill (302) was a charcoal-rich dark yellow/brown sandy silt up to 0.45m thick. The only finds recovered from the
fill were lumps of fired clay/daub.
