Monument record 1534/1/4 - Site of Farm Barn/Outbuilding, Cold Arbour Farm

A building history and heritage statement was produced in 2016 for Cold Arbour Farm (CHER 1534/1/0), Tytherington, Bollington, prior to proposed development. The seventeenth century farmhouse (CHER 1534/1/1) and associated barn (CHER 1534/1/2) are both Grade II listed buildings. A mid-nineteenth century outbuilding/garage also formed part of the complex and lay to the south-east of the farmhouse and barn. The outbuilding was demolished in June 2016 as part of the development works. The study included a map regression exercise, together with external and internal examination of the buildings, including photographic recording.

The mid-nineteenth century outbuilding/garage was a stone outbuilding with a blue slate pitched roof. This is shown on the 1875 map as a two-bay barn with two small pens to the south and possibly stables. The barn was converted to a garage in the 20th century with the insertion of a steel joist, the partial infill of the front in stone with a window and door and the infill above in brick. There are no historic features on the interior of the ground floor. At the time of inspection, in 2016, the building was unsafe for entry so the first floor was not seen.
