The Chester Co-operative Society was founded in 1884. The Co-op building in Walker Street in Hoole was built in 1906. It included a grocer and a butcher, and a shoe and clothing store located on the first floor.

Shop built by the Chester Co-operative Society and opened in 1905. The building occupies a corner plot and is V shaped in plan, with one large shop widow on the south-western street front and five windows on the first floor. The north-western street front has two large shop windows, with five windows on the floor above. The ground floor shop windows and doorway are topped by a simple classical style decoration in timber which creates a continuous decorative feature dividing the first and ground floors. First floor windows are arched, with decorative keystones in brick in brick. Built of brick, with Ruabon brick and parapets on the street frontage, and a slate roof.
