Monument record 15194 - Parkgate Public Baths

Parkgate open air swimming baths were built by Mostyn House School in 1923 for their own use, but also open to the public. The pool was c.100 yards long, with shallow and deep sides, as opposed to ends in modern pools. The pool derived its water from filtered salt water pumped from the Dee Estuary. A smaller pool c.50 yards in length, was added around 1930. The School sold the baths in 1939 to fund the construction of an air raid shelter in the school grounds (see CHER 5632). From the 1940s the bath had increasing problems with the silting of the Dee Estuary affecting the water supply and its filtration. In 1950 the baths were closed and they had been filled in by 1970.
