Full Description

<1> Environment Agency, 2003-2020, Environment Agency LiDAR Surveys, 2m DSM Composite (06/10/2020) (Digital Archive). SCH7819.

An area of regular ridge and furrow earthworks measuring c.12m from peak of ridge to peak of ridge, orientated north-east to south-west. Probably medieval in date. The earthworks appear to be cut at their north-eastern end by a negative linear earthwork orientated north-west to south-east. This is probably a former field boundary contemporaneous with the surrounding field system and later in date than the ridge and furrow.

<2> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 06/10/2020 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.

This area has been subject to ploughing and reseeding. This is confirmed by aerial imagery (see 3) predating the LIDAR surveys used to create the composite dataset (see1). Further truncation of the earthworks has been caused by the excavations associated with the gas main which runs north-west to south-east through the two fields.

<3> Bluesky International Ltd, 2005-2006, 2005-2006 Bluesky Survey, 108, 10/05/2006 (Aerial Photograph). SCH5483.

<4> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 325/2, 1839 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.

The two fields containing the earthworks are named Large Standleys and Standleys Small.
