An assemblage of five flints, three of which are worked, were recovered during excavations in 2019 on land to the west of Wrexham Road, potentially indicating prehistoric activity on site. Of the three worked flints, one was recovered from topsoil and is a poorly struck flake of good knapping quality flint that is not closely dateable but is most characteristic of Later Neolithic or Bronze Age industries. The two remaining worked flints were made from a glassy translucent/speckled brown flint that is most likely to have been gathered from the glacial tills that mantle the area. They include a small flake (chip) that appears to have been struck in order to refine the core’s striking platform edge. It is not easy to date but it suggests careful core maintenance which is most likely to have occurred during the Mesolithic or Neolithic periods. The remaining piece is a small conchoidally fractured chunk, possibly part of a shattered core, which cannot be dated with any greater precision than to the prehistoric period.
