There are a number of documentary references associated with the Ridge placename in this township. The earliest dates from 1428, but there are at least two locations which incorporate this place-name. The first specific reference to Ridgegate dates from 1611, but the appellation to this farmstead is uncertain.

<4> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ9571, 1871-1882 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.

The location of the farmstead can identified on the photograph, but none of the buildings are still extant.
