Summary

Archaeological field survey mitigation works undertaken at Crown Farm Quarry between 2016 and 2018 recorded a large depression known locally as the ‘Plague Hole’. Upon excavation it was revealed to be a silted up, shallow, cut feature, potentially marl pit, with an approximate maximum depth of 1.20m and comprising an additional alluvial deposit with a maximum thickness of 0.30m.
