A series of pits and gullies (Area 4/5) were excavated as part of a scheme of archaeological mitigation undertaken in support of the A6 Manchester Relief Road. Areas 4/5 comprised a diamond-shaped area of 0.1 ha located between Moss Nook and Handforth. Two of the pits contained struck flints, including a waste flake and three chips, also a potential grape pit. Additionally, two other features contained concentrations of charcoal, another heat-affected stones, and one other contained a hazel nutshell fragment. Although the flint flake has edge damage, and therefore may have been re-deposited, it is still thought that these features and their contents may be indicative of prehistoric activity in the area.
