Summary

Historic maps dating from the nineteenth century depict a colliery at this location. These maps depict shafts and buildings connected to a canal wharf by tramways. Pumping and winding was facilitated by steam engines. The colliery appears to have been abandoned by the 1897, but at least one of the shafts apprears to have been maintained for ventilation of the mine.
