Monument record 14952 - Former Course of Newcastle Road

The tithe maps for the townships of Odd Rode, Moreton Cum Alcumlow and Newbold Astbury depict Newcastle Road as running east of its current location. The road deviates from its later alignment at Little Moreton Hall, running in a north-easterly alignment towards the former mill at Great Moreton Hall. The road passes to the immediate west of the mill pond, along the mill dam, continuing north to re-join the present course of the road.

The road has largely been replaced by the present course, but survives between the mill at Great Moreton Hall and New Lane. Elsewhere the alignment is sometimes marked by treelines.
