Full Description
<1> L-P Archaeology, 2019, Archaeological Watching Brief Report: St Mary's Hill, Chester, R4300 (Client Report). SCH8685.
An archaeological watching brief undertaken during emergency water mains maintenance works in 2019 recorded the remains of a sandstone wall orientated north-south. The sandstone wall was in poor condition and partly degraded, surviving at 0.5m in height (four courses) and 0.55m in width. Within the wall were fragments of Roman pottery, mortarium and fragments of roof tile. No definitive cut was identified for the wall, however, it had been cut by modern east to west aligned sewer pipe.
