Monument record 14913 - Site of a Decoy Pond at Peel Hall

An estate map of 1717 shows a pool marked Decoy indicating that there may have been a shooting pond or trap. Interpreted a a shooting pond as there is no contemporary documentary evidence that suggests this area of wetland had radiating arms.

Feature already part of the landscape by 1680s as the landowner's diary refers to the Decoy and duck hunting.

Drainage work to the Ashton Brook most likely resulted in the loss of the original pool thought he filed name was still in use in 1870. Today the area is known as "Quay" and small ponds have developed in the area as it allowed to be recalimed by nature.
